Percy jackson: All physical descriptions
Ive read the first five Percy Jackson books and saved all mentions of physical descriptions of the characters. Ive personally used these when Im drawing the characters to lookas close to canon descriptions as i can.
Mr Brunner/Chiron
TLT
- Mr. Brunner was this middle-aged guy in a motorized wheelchair. He had thinning hair and a scruffy beard and a frayed tweed jacket, which always smelled like coffee.
- intense brown eyes that could've been a thousand years old and had seen everything
- familiar-looking bearded man
- Then I recognized the tweed jacket, the thinning brown hair, the scraggly beard.
TSOM - Chiron is a centaur. From the waist up he looks like a regular middle-aged guy with curly brown hair and a scraggly beard. From the waist down, he’s a white stallion.
TTC - Chiron’s brown beard was shaggier for the winter. His curly hair had grown a little longer. He wasn’t posing as a teacher this year, so I guess he could afford to be casual. He wore a fuzzy sweater with a hoofprint design on it,
- he was really old, but he usually didn’t look it.
BOTL - He had a quiver and bow slung over his #1 CENTAUR T-shirt. He’d trimmed his curly brown hair and beard for the summer, and his lower half, which was a white stallion, was flecked with mud and grass.
TLO - he's a white stallion from the waist down. His beard had grown wilder over the summer. He wore a green T-shirt that said MY OTHER CAR IS A CENTAUR and a bow slung over his back.
- In horse form, his head almost brushed the lights in the rec room
Nancy Bobofit
TLT
- Nancy Bobofit, the freckly, redheaded kleptomaniac girl
- her face even brighter red than her hair. (shes embarrassed)
- She grinned at me with her crooked teeth. Her freckles were orange, as if somebody had spray-painted her face with liquid Cheetos
Grover
TLT
- Grover was an easy target. He was scrawny. He cried when he got frustrated. He must've been held back several grades, because he was the only sixth grader with acne and the start of a wispy beard on his chin.
- I was ready to bet that if I shaved his curly brown hair, I'd find tiny horns on his head.
- He had a big welt on his forehead. His green rasta cap hung from one of his little goat horns (after fight)
- . His goatee had gotten thicker. He'd put on weight. His horns had grown at least an inch, so he now had to wear his rasta cap all the time to pass as human
TSOM - Grover is a Satyr. From the waist up, he looks like a typical gangly teenager with a peach-fuzz goatee and a bad case of acne. He walks with a strange limp, but unless you happen to catch him without his pants on (which I don’t recommend), you’d never know there was anything unhuman about him. Baggy jeans and fake feet hide the fact that he’s got furry hindquarters and hooves
TTC - He’d gotten a little taller and had sprouted a few more whiskers, but otherwise he looked like he always did when he passed for human—a red cap on his curly brown hair to hide his goat horns, baggy jeans and sneakers with fake feet to hide his furry legs and hooves. He was wearing a black T-shirt that took me a few seconds to read. It said WESTOVER HALL: GRUNT.
BOTL - He hadn’t changed much since last winter, maybe because satyrs age half as fast as humans. His acne had flared up. His horns had gotten a little bigger so they just stuck out over his curly hair. I realized with a start that I was taller than he was now.
- His faded blue T-shirt had a picture of a satyr on it. It read GOT HOOVES?
TLO - Grover had stopped trying to disguise himself as human. He never wore a cap or fake feet anymore. He didn't even wear jeans, since he had lurry goat legs from the waist down. His T-shirt had a picture from that book Where the Wild Things Are. It was covered with dirt and tree sap. His goatee looked fuller, almost manly (or goatly?), and he was as tall as me now.
Mrs Dodds
TLT
- Mrs. Dodds was this little math teacher from Georgia who always wore a black leather jacket, even though she was fifty years old.
Gabe Ugliano
TLT
- Gabe had put on weight. He looked like a tuskless walrus in thrift-store clothes. He had about three hairs on his head, all combed over his bald scalp, as if that made him handsome or something.
Sally Jackson
TLT
- Her eyes sparkle and change color in the light. Her smile is as warm as a quilt. She's got a few gray streaks mixed in with her long brown hair, but I never think of her as old.
- Her eyes turned the color of the sea.
- Her multicolored eyes seemed to search inside me.
TSOM - She was dressed in her work uniform—a starry blue skirt and a red-and-white striped blouse she wore to sell candy at Sweet on America. Her long brown hair was pulled back in a ponytail.
Percy Jackson
TLT
- You have his black hair, you know, and his green eyes
TSOM - like the first zit that had cropped up on my nose at the beginning of the school year, or the fact that my two front teeth weren’t perfectly even, or that my hair never stayed down straight.
TTC - Zoé had me outfitted in a ragged flannel shirt and jeans three sizes too big, bright red sneakers, and a floppy rainbow hat.
BOTL - I looked as if I’d lost twenty pounds I couldn’t afford to lose. My hair was a rat’s nest. It was singed at the edges like Hephaestus’s beard.\
Poseidon
TLT
- Tall, handsome, and powerful. But gentle, too. You have his black hair, you know, and his green eyes.
- His skin was deeply tanned, his hands scarred like an old-time fisherman's. His hair was black, like mine. His face had that same brooding look that had always gotten me branded a rebel. But his eyes, sea-green like mine, were surrounded by sun-crinkles that told me he smiled a lot, too.
TTC - He had a weathered, suntanned face with a dark beard and deep green eyes.
BOTL - He was wearing Bermuda shorts and a Hawaiian shirt and Birkenstocks, like he usually does. His black beard was neatly trimmed and his sea-green eyes twinkled. He wore a battered cap decorated with fishing lures.
TLO - (underwater) Standing next to him was an old man with a bushy white beard and gray hair. His battle armor seemed to weigh him down. He had green eyes and smile wrinkles around his eyes, but he wasn't smiling now.
Annabeth Chase
TLT
- a pretty girl, her blond hair curled like a princess's.
- The girl with curly blond hair
- She was probably my age, maybe a couple of inches taller, and a whole lot more athletic looking. With her deep tan and her curly blond hair, she was almost exactly what I thought a stereotypical California girl would look like, except her eyes ruined the image. They were startling gray, like storm clouds; pretty, but intimidating, too, as if she were analyzing the best way to take me down in a fight.
- her blond hair flying behind her.
- beautiful gray eyes
TSOM - She was wearing jeans and a denim jacket over her orange Camp Half-Blood T-shirt. Her blond hair was pulled back in a bandanna.
- Her face was grimy and scratched. She had a ragged backpack slung over her shoulder, her baseball cap tucked in her pocket, a bronze knife in her hand, and a wild look in her storm-gray eyes, like she’d just been chased a thousand miles by ghosts.
- She looked even worse than I’d realized at first. Her chin was cut. Twigs and grass were tangled in her ponytail, as if she’d slept several nights in the open. The slashes on the hems of her jeans looked suspiciously like claw marks.
- a dozen boys and girls with blond hair and gray eyes like hers
TTC - Her blond hair was tucked into a ski cap and her gray eyes were the same color as the ocean.
- Annabeth had grown taller than me since last summer, which I found kind of disturbing. She used to wear no jewelry except for her Camp HalfBlood bead necklace, but now she wore little silver earrings shaped like owls—the symbol of her mother, Athena. She pulled off her ski cap, and her long blond hair tumbled down her shoulders. It made her look older, for some reason.
- He had sandy-colored hair like Annabeth
- Her blond hair was now streaked with gray.
BOTL - She was wearing jeans and an orange camp T-shirt and her clay bead necklace. Her blond hair was pulled back in a ponytail. Her gray eyes sparkled
- Her hair had come loose and was hanging in a tangled blond curtain all around her face. Her gray eyes looked almost black
TLO - she hardly brushed her curly blond hair anymore, and she didn't care what clothes she was wearing — usually the same old orange camp T-shirt and jeans, and once in a while her bronze armor. Her eyes were stormy gray.
Argus
TLT
- A husky blond dude, like a surfer, stood in the corner of the bedroom keeping watch over me.
- He had blue eyes — at least a dozen of them — on his cheeks, his forehead, the backs of his hands
Dionysus
TLT
- The man facing me was small, but porky. He had a red nose, big watery eyes, and curly hair so black it was almost purple. He looked like those paintings of baby angels — what do you call them, hubbubs? No, cherubs. That's it. He looked like a cherub who'd turned middle-aged in a trailer park. He wore a tiger-pattern Hawaiian shirt, and he would' ve fit right in at one of Gabe's poker parties, except I got the feeling this guy could 've out-gambled even my stepfather.
- plump little man
TSOM - He was wearing his usual leopard-pattern Hawaiian shirt, walking shorts, and tennis shoes with black socks. With his pudgy belly and his blotchy red face, he looked like a Las Vegas tourist who’d stayed up too late in the casinos.
TTC - suit and his purple running shoes. (Like Mr. D had ever run a day in his immortal life.) A golden laurel wreath was tilted sideways on his curly black hair
Clarisse la rue
TLT
- The loudest was a girl maybe thirteen or fourteen. She wore a size XXXL CAMP HALF-BLOOD T-shirt under a camouflage jacket. She zeroed in on me and gave me an evil sneer. She reminded me of Nancy Bobofit, though the camper girl was much bigger and tougher looking, and her hair was long and stringy, and brown instead of red.
- The big girl from the ugly red cabin was sauntering toward us. She had three other girls behind her, all big and ugly and mean looking like her
- Her ugly pig eyes glared through the slits of her helmet.
TSOM - She was a big girl with cruel eyes like her father’s. She looked like she was born to wear Greek battle armor
- She had one arm in a sling and a nasty-looking gash on her cheek, but otherwise her encounter with the bronze bulls didn’t seem to have fazed her. Someone had taped a piece of paper to her back that said, YoU Moo, GIRL! But nobody in her cabin was bothering to tell her about it.
TTC
- She had one arm in a sling and a nasty-looking gash on her cheek, but otherwise her encounter with the bronze bulls didn’t seem to have fazed her. Someone had taped a piece of paper to her back that said, YoU Moo, GIRL! But nobody in her cabin was bothering to tell her about it.
- She had a new scar on her chin, and her dirty blond hair had been cut short and ragged, like someone had attacked it with a pair of safety scissors.
BOTL - Clarisse’s stringy brown hair was tied back with a camouflage bandanna. If possible, she looked even buffer, like she’d been working out.
- For a second she reminded me of Eurytion the cowherd, her much older half brother. She had the same hard look in her eyes.
TLO - Clarisse was dressed in her bloodred combat armor, her brown hair tucked into a bandana. She was as big and beefy as a rugby player, with a permanent scowl on her face
- which looked kind of funny since Clarisse was a foot taller then michael yew, Michael stood four feet six, with another two feet of attitude.
Luke castellan
TLT
- The guy was about nineteen, and he looked pretty cool. He was tall and muscular, with short-cropped sandy hair and a friendly smile. He wore an orange tank top, cutoffs, sandals, and a leather necklace with five different-colored clay beads. The only thing unsettling about his appearance was a thick white scar that ran from just beneath his right eye to his jaw, like an old knife slash
- He had the Herme family resemblance, too. It was marred by that scar on his right cheek, but his smile was intact.
- but at the moment, he looked weary, and angry, and not at all handsome. His blond hair was gray in the sunlight. The scar on his face looked deeper than usual. I could imagine him as an old man.
TSOM - He’d changed since the last summer. Instead of Bermuda shorts and a T-shirt, he wore a button-down shirt, khaki pants, and leather loafers. His sandy hair, which used to be so unruly, was now clipped short. He looked like an evil male model, showing off what the fashionable college-age villain was wearing to Harvard this year.
- He still had the scar under his eye—a jagged white line from his battle with a dragon.
- He looked terrible. His skin was pale and his blond hair looked almost gray, as if he’d aged ten years in just a few months. The angry light in his eyes was still there, and so was the scar down the side of his face, where a dragon had once scratched him. But the scar was now ugly red, as though it had recently been reopened.
BOTL - Luke’s blond hair looked pure white. He wore an ancient Greek chiton and a white himation, a kind of cape that flowed down his shoulders. The white clothes made him look timeless and a little surreal
- Luke was dressed for battle. He wore camouflage pants, a white T-shirt, and a bronze breastplate, but his sword, Backbiter, wasn’t at his side—only and empty scabbard
- His skin was pale. Blond hair.. .and a scar running along the left side of his face.
TLO - The picture was definitely Luke as a young boy. He was about nine years old, with a wide grin and no scar on his face.
- I was trying to figure out why she thought Nio was Luke (they looked absolutely nothing alike)
- Luke, there you are! You look so handsome. You have your father's eyes
- Luke has blue eyes. Beautiful blue eyes
Pollux and castor
TLT
- A couple of plump blond boys who looked just like Mr. D.
Riptide/anaklusmos
TLT - I took off the cap, and the pen grew longer and heavier in my hand. In half a second, I held a shimmering bronze sword with a double-edged blade, a leatherwrapped grip, and a flat hilt riveted with gold studs. It was the first weapon that actually felt balanced in my hand.
- The blade cast a faint bronze light
TTC - bronze Greek sword about three-feet long with a leather-bound grip.
Medusa
TLT - standing in front of us was a tall Middle Eastern woman — at least, I assumed she was Middle Eastern, because she wore a long black gown that covered everything but her hands, and her head was completely veiled. Her eyes glinted behind a curtain of black gauze, but that was about all I could make out. Her coffee-colored hands looked old, but well-manicured and elegant, so I imagined she was a grandmother who had once been a beautiful lady.
- Poor old lady.
- My eyes rose to Aunty Em's hands, which had turned gnarled and warty, with sharp bronze talons for fingernails.
- I could see Aunty Em's dark reflection in the orange glass; her headdress was gone, revealing her face as a shimmering pale circle. Her hair was moving, writhing like serpents.
- a poor old grandmother.
Echinda
TLT - the fat lady asked us.
- She had beady eyes; pointy, coffee-stained teeth; a floppy denim hat, and a denim dress that bulged so much, she looked like a blue-jean blimp.
- She smiled back, her forked tongue flickering between her teeth.
- The snake lady
- She howled, her reptilian face turning brown and green with rage
- revealing that the skin of her arms was scaly and green. When she smiled, I saw that her teeth were fangs. The pupils of her eyes were sideways slits, like a reptile's.
Ares+motorcycle
TLT
- The motorcycle's headlight glared red. Its gas tank had flames painted on it, and a shotgun holster riveted to either side, complete with shotguns. The seat was leather — but leather that looked like ... well, Caucasian human skin.
- a motorcycle the size of a baby elephant
- The guy on the bike would 've made pro wrestlers run for Mama. He was dressed in a red muscle shirt and black jeans and a black leather duster, with a hunting knife strapped to his thigh.
- He wore red wraparound shades, and he had the crudest, most brutal face I'd ever seen
- handsome
- Where his eyes should've been, there was only fire, empty sockets glowing with miniature nuclear explosions
TSOM - a muscular man in black leather biker clothes, with a military haircut, red-tinted sunglasses, and a knife strapped to his side.
TTC - He was a big man with a crew cut, a black leather biker’s jacket, black jeans, a white muscle shirt, and combat boots. Wraparound shades hid his eyes, but I knew what was behind those glasses—hollow sockets filled with flames.
- He grinned crookedly
CHB necklace
- I've got Thalia's pine tree, a Greek trireme on fire, a centaur in a prom dress
- The design was pitch black, with a seagreen trident shimmering in the center.
- There were three beads now, representing my three summers at camp—a trident, the Golden Fleece, and the latest: an intricate maze, symbolizing the Battle of the Labyrinth,
- (tlo) but since last year I'd also kept a sand dollar on the cord.
Thalia grace
TLT
- also wearing a straitjacket. She was my age, with unruly black, punk-style hair, dark eyeliner around her stormy green eyes, and freckles across her nose.
TSOM - I looked over, expecting to see Annabeth, but the girl wasn’t Annabeth. She wore punk-style clothes with silver chains on her wrists. She had spiky black hair, dark eyeliner around her stormy blue eyes, and a spray of freckles across her nose.
- She had short black hair and freckles across her nose. She was built like a long-distance runner, lithe and strong, and she wore clothes that were somewhere between punk and Goth—a black Tshirt, black tattered jeans, and a leather jacket with buttons from a bunch of bands I’d never heard of.
- Her irises were startlingly blue—electric blue.
TTC
- Her irises were startlingly blue—electric blue.
- Thalia was great at giving evil looks, what with the punk clothes she always wears—the ripped-up army jacket, black leather pants and chain jewelry, the black eyeliner and those intense blue eyes.
- With her ragged black hair and her black punk clothes, an old wool overcoat wrapped around her, she looked like some kind of huge raven, completely out of place in the white landscape.
- And the girl with the spiky black hair and the—how do you say—punk clothes and the horrible shield.
- Thalia with her ratty clothes and her rebel attitude.
Procrustes
TLT
- Standing behind us was a guy who looked like a raptor in a leisure suit. He was at least seven feet tall, with absolutely no hair. He had gray, leathery skin, thicklidded eyes, and a cold, reptilian smile.
Charon
TLT
- He was tall and elegant, with chocolate-colored skin and bleached-blond hair shaved military style. He wore tortoiseshell shades and a silk Italian suit that matched his hair. A black rose was pinned to his lapel under a silver name tag.
- I couldn't see anything in his glasses except my own reflection, but his smile was sweet and cold, like a pythons, right before it eats you.
Ceberus
TLT
- I'd always imagined Cerberus as a big black mastiff. But he was obviously a purebred Rottweiler, except of course that he was twice the size of a woolly mammoth, mostly invisible, and had three heads.
Hades
TLT
- He was at least ten feet tall, for one thing, and dressed in black silk robes and a crown of braided gold. His skin was albino white, his hair shoulder-length and jet black. He wasn't bulked up like Ares, but he radiated power. He lounged on his throne of fused human bones, looking lithe, graceful, and dangerous as a panther.
- Hades 's aura was affecting me, just as Ares's had. The Lord of the Dead resembled pictures I'd seen of Adolph Hitler, or Napoleon, or the terrorist leaders who direct suicide bombers. Hades had the same intense eyes, the same kind of mesmerizing, evil charisma.
Zeus
TLT
- Zeus, the Lord of the Gods, wore a dark blue pinstriped suit. He sat on a simple throne of solid platinum. He had a well-trimmed beard, marbled gray and black like a storm cloud. His face was proud and handsome and grim, his eyes rainy gray.
TTC - Zeus in his dark pin-striped suit, his black beard neatly trimmed, and his eyes sparking with energy
Matt sloan
TSOM - Sloan wasn’t big or strong, but he acted like he was. He had eyes like a pit bull, and shaggy black hair, and he always dressed in expensive but sloppy clothes, like he wanted everybody to see how little he cared about his family’s money. One of his front teeth was chipped from the time he’d taken his daddy’s Porsche for a joyride and run into a PLEASE SLOW DOWN FOR CHILDREN Sign.
Tyson
TSOM
- he was very young, probably because he was so...different. He was sixfoot-three and built like the Abominable Snowman, but he cried a lot and was scared of just about everything, including his own reflection. His face was kind of misshapen and brutal-looking. I couldn’t tell you what color his eyes were, because I could never make myself look higher than his crooked teeth. He wore tattered jeans, grimy size-twenty sneakers, and a plaid flannel shirt with holes in it.
- I think it’s because he’s completely hairy and he’s got weird scars on his back that I’ve never had the courage to ask him about.
- his big lumpy nose
- One large, calf-brown eye, right in the middle of his forehead, with thick lashes and big tears trickling down his cheeks on either side.
BOTL - his single calf-brown eye full of excitement. His teeth were as yellow and crooked as ever, and his hair was a rat’s nest. He wore ragged XXXL jeans and a tattered flannel shirt under his flowered apron, but he was still a sight for sore eyes.
TLO - percy waking up mistakes him for beckendorf
- a misshapen face, ratty brown hair, one big brown eye full of concern.
Charles beckendorf
TSOM
- Charles Beckendorf, a big fifteen-year-old African American kid. He had hands the size of catchers’ mitts and a face that was hard and squinty from looking into a blacksmith’s forge all day.
TTC - He was a big guy
TLO - He was huge, with ripped muscles from working on the forges every summer, two years older than me, and one of the camp's best armorsmiths.
- Then he put on his old confident smile.
- Beckendorf was supposed to go to college in the fall.
Travis stoll
TSOM
- They weren’t twins, but they looked so much alike it didn’t matter. I could never remember which one was older. They were both tall and skinny, with mops of brown hair that hung in their eyes. They wore orange CAMP HALFBLOOD T-shirts untucked over baggy shorts, and they had those elfish features all Herme’s kids had: upturned eyebrows, sarcastic smiles, a gleam in their eyes whenever they looked at you—like they were about to drop a firecracker down your shirt.
TLO - They are both so unlike my old enemy Luke it's hard to believe they're all sons of Herme.
Connor stoll
TLO - He's got curly brown hair and is a little shorter than his brother, Travis, which is the only way I can tell them apart.
- They are both so unlike my old enemy Luke it's hard to believe they're all sons of Herme.
Tantalus
TSOM
- a pale, horribly thin man in a threadbare orange prisoner’s jumpsuit. The number over his pocket read 0001. He had blue shadows under his eyes, dirty fingernails, and badly cut gray hair, like his last haircut had been done with a weed whacker. He stared at me; his eyes made me nervous.
Hermes
TSOM
- Standing right next to me was a guy in nylon running shorts and a New York City Marathon T-shirt. He was slim and fit, with salt-and-pepper hair and a sly smile.
TLO - Luke, there you are! You look so handsome. You have your father's eyes (blue)
Polyphemus
TSOM
- Looming in the doorway was a Cyclops so huge he made Tyson look vertically challenged. He had jagged yellow teeth and gnarled hands as big as my whole body.
- He must’ve been at least fifteen feet tall, but the most startling thing was his enormous milky eye, scarred and webbed with cataracts. If he wasn’t completely blind, he had to be pretty darn close.
Circe
TSOM
- She was even prettier than her fabric. Her long dark hair was braided with threads of gold. She had piercing green eyes and she wore a silky black dress with shapes that seemed to move in the fabric: animal shadows, black upon black, like deer running through a forest at night.
Hylla (ramirez arellano)
TSOM
- She looked like a flight attendant—blue business suit, perfect makeup, hair pulled back in a ponytail. She shook our hands as we stepped onto the dock. With the dazzling smile she gave us, you would’ve thought we’d just gotten off the Princess Andromeda rather than a banged-up rowboat.
Frederick Chase
TSOM
- I recognized Annabeth’s dad from photos she’d shown me—an athletic-looking, sandy-haired guy in his forties.
TTC - I was not expecting him to be wearing an old-fashioned aviator’s cap and goggles.
- He had sandy-colored hair like Annabeth and intense brown eyes. He was handsome, I guess, for an older guy, but it looked like he hadn’t shaved in a couple of days, and his shirt was buttoned wrong, so one side of his collar stuck up higher than the other side.
- middle aged mortal
Athena
TSOM
- beautiful woman who looked a lot like Annabeth. She was dressed casually—in blue jeans and a denim shirt and hiking boots—but something about the woman radiated power.
TTC - She was a park ranger, with long black hair pulled back in a ponytail and tinted glasses.
- She’d taken off her glasses. Her eyes were startlingly gray, like storm clouds.
- Her gray eyes and her smile.
- Next to her sat a beautiful gray-eyed woman in an elegant white dress
The party ponies
TSOM
- There were centaurs with black Arabian stallion bodies, others with gold palomino coats, others with orange-and-white spots like paint horses. Some wore brightly colored T-shirts with Day-Glo letters that said PARTY PONIES: SOUTH FLORIDA CHAPTER. Some were armed with bows, some with baseball bats, some with paintball guns. One had his face painted like a Comanche wairior and was waving a large orange Styrofoam hand making a big Number 1. Another was bare-chested and painted entirely green. A third had googly-eye glasses with the eyeballs bouncing around on Slinky coils, and one of those baseball caps with soda-can-and-straw attachments on either side.
Dr Thorn/ the manticore
TTC
- They both had short gray hair and black military-style uniforms with red trim. The woman had a wispy mustache, and the guy was clean-shaven, which seemed kind of backward to me. They both walked stiffly, like they had broomsticks taped to their spines.
- He was tall, with a hawkish face. His nostrils flared when he spoke, which made it really hard not to stare up his nose, and his eyes were two different colors— one brown, one blue—like an alley cat’s.
- man with gray hair and a military buzz cut got out. He was wearing dark shades and a black overcoat.
- He was wearing a ratty black trench coat over his Westover Hall uniform, which was torn and stained. His military haircut had grown out spiky and greasy. He hadn’t shaved recently, so his face was covered in silver stubble.
Bianca di angelo
TTC
- The girl wore a floppy green cap, like she was trying to hide her face. The boy was obviously her little brother. They both had dark silky hair and olive skin, and they used their hands a lot as they talked.
- I was amazed at how different she looked after just a few days with the Hunters. Her dark hair was braided like Zoé’s now, so you could actually see her face. She had a splash of freckles across her nose, and her dark eyes vaguely reminded me of someone famous, but I couldn’t think who. She looked like she’d been working out, and her skin glowed faintly
BOTL - a green cap set sideways on her thick black hair, dark eyes and olive skin like her brother. She wore jeans and a silvery jacket, the outfit of a Hunter of Artemis. A bow was slung over her shoulder. She smiled faintly, and her whole form flickered.
Nico di angelo
TTC
- The boy was obviously her little brother. They both had dark silky hair and olive skin, and they used their hands a lot as they talked.
- His blue-feathered bronze helmet was falling in his eyes, and his breastplate was about six sizes too big. I wondered if there was any way I’d looked that ridiculous when I’d first arrived. Unfortunately, I probably had.
BOTL - Nico was only ten, or maybe eleven by now, but he looked older. His hair had grown longer. It was shaggy and almost touched his shoulders. His eyes were dark. His olive skin had turned paler. He wore ripped black jeans and a battered aviator’s jacket that was several sizes too big, unzipped over a black shirt. His face was grimy, his eyes a little wild. He looked like a kid who’d been living on the streets.
- He looked thinner and paler than he had in the Irismessages. I wondered if he’d eaten in the last week. His black clothes were dusty from traveling in the Labyrinth, and his dark eyes were full of hate.
- You’ve gotten so tall -bianca
- He had his father’s eyes
- He’d grown about an inch taller over the last couple of months. His hair was a shaggy black mess. He wore a black T-shirt, black jeans, and a new silver ring shaped like a skull. His Stygian iron sword hung at his side.
TLO - an aviator's jacket, black jeans, and a T-shirt with dancing skeletons on it, like one of those Day of the Dead pictures. His Stygian iron sword hung at his side. He was only twelve, but he looked much older and sadder.
- I was trying to figure out why she thought Nico was Luke (they looked absolutely nothing alike),
The hunters
TTC
- Then the archers came from the woods. They were girls, about a dozen of them. The youngest was maybe ten. The oldest, about fourteen, like me. They wore silvery ski parkas and jeans, and they were all armed with bows. They advanced on the manticore with determined expressions.
- was a three-fold display like a travel brochure. “You remember what you said—about how it was weird the Hunters just happened to show up at Westover Hall? I think they might’ve been scouting us.”
- “Scouting us? What do you mean?”
- He gave me the brochure. It was about the Hunters of Artemis. The front read, A WISE CHOICE FOR YOUR FUTURE! Inside were pictures of young maidens doing hunter stuff, chasing monsters, shooting bows. There were captions like: HEALTH BENEFITS: IMMORTALITY AND WHAT IT MEANS FOR YOU! and A BOY-FREE TOMORROW!
Zoë
TTC
- One of the older archers stepped forward with her bow drawn. She was tall and graceful with coppery colored skin. Unlike the other girls, she had a silver circlet braided into the top of her long dark hair, so she looked like some kind of Persian princess.
- She had dark brown eyes and a slightly upturned nose. With her silver circlet and her proud expression, she looked so much like royalty
- One wears a silver circlet
- Zoé all formal and aloof like a princess
- Their skin was like caramel. Silky black hair tumbled loose around their shoulders. It was strange, but I’d never realized how beautiful Zoé was until I saw her siblings, the Hesperides. They looked just like Zoé
- Atlas had the same regal expression as Zoé, the same cold proud look in his eyes that Zoé sometimes got when she was mad
Artemis
TTC
- This one was a little younger than me, maybe twelve or thirteen. She had auburn hair gathered back in a ponytail and strange eyes, silvery yellow like the moon. Her face was so beautiful it made me catch my breath, but her expression was stern and dangerous.
- her eyes colder and brighter than the winter moon.
- instead rested on the shoulders of a twelve-year-old girl with auburn hair and a tattered silvery dress
- a young auburn-haired girl, perfectly at ease
Apollo
TTC
- He looked about seventeen or eighteen, and for a second, I had the uneasy feeling it was Luke, my old enemy. This guy had the same sandy hair and outdoorsy good looks. But it wasn’t Luke. This guy was taller, with no scar on his face like Luke’s. His smile was brighter and more playful. (Luke didn’t do much more than scowl and sneer these days.) The Maserati driver wore jeans and loafers and a sleeveless Tshirt.
- If his teeth were any whiter he could’ve blinded us without the sun car.
- Apollo leaned back in his golden throne with his shades on. He had iPod headphones on, so I wasn’t sure he was even listening, but he gave me a thumbs-up.
Paul Blofis
TTC
- The man was, I don’t know, thirtysomething, with longish salt-and-pepper hair and a brown jacket over a black T-shirt. He looked like an actor—like a guy who might play an undercover cop on television.
BOTL - With his salt-and-pepper hair, denim clothes, and leather jacket, he reminded me of a TV actor
TLO - He was wearing his white bathrobe, now covered in hellhound fur, and his salt-and-pepper hair was sticking up in every direction.
Bessie/the Ophiotaurus
TTC
- cow serpent
- sad brown eyes
Atlas/The general
TTC
- He was tall and muscular, with light brown skin and slicked-back dark hair. He wore an expensive brown silk suit like the guys on Wall Street wear, but you’d never mistake this dude for a broker. He had a brutal face, huge shoulders, and hands that could snap a flagpole in half. His eyes were like stone. I felt as if I were looking at a living statue.
- Atlas had the same regal expression as Zoé, the same cold proud look in his eyes that Zoé sometimes got when she was mad, though on him it looked a thousand times more evil.
Aphrodite
TTC
- She was wearing a red satin dress and her hair was curled in a cascade of ringlets. Her face was the most beautiful I’d ever seen: perfect makeup, dazzling eyes, a smile that would’ve lit up the dark side of the moon.
- Or even what color her hair or her eyes were. Pick the most beautiful actress you can think of. The goddess was ten times more beautiful than that. Pick your favorite hair color, eye color, whatever. The goddess had that.
Rachel elizabeth dare
TTC
- The girl rolled her eyes, which were green like mine. She had frizzy reddish-brown hair. Her nose was also red, like she had a cold. She wore a big maroon Harvard sweatshirt and jeans that were covered with marker stains and little holes, like she spent her free time poking them with a fork.
BOTL - Paul Blofis was greeting a girl with frizzy red hair. She wore a maroon Tshirt and ratty jeans decorated with marker drawings.
- The redheaded girl
- She’s kind of cute -annabeth
- and she was completely painted gold. I mean, her face, her hair, her clothes—everything.
- She’d changed into a ratty Museum of Modern Art T-shirt and her regular marker-colored jeans, her blue plastic hairbrush sticking out of her pocket. Her red hair was tied back, but she still had flecks of gold in it, and traces of the gold glitter on her face
TLO - Rachel's red hair was pulled back in a ponytail and she wore a white blouse over her swimsuit.
- She wore a kimono, and her hair was frizzy, like she'd been sleeping.
Nereus
TTC
- a guy who looked about a million years old was passed out in a patch of sunlight. He wore pajamas and a fuzzy bathrobe that probably used to be white. He was fat, with a white beard that had turned yellow, kind of like Santa Claus, if Santa had been rolled out of bed and dragged through a landfill.
Annabeths stepmum
TTC
- She was a pretty Asian woman with red highlighted hair tied in a bun.
The hesperides
TTC
- four young women who looked very much like Zoé. They all wore white Greek chitons. Their skin was like caramel. Silky black hair tumbled loose around their shoulders. It was strange, but I’d never realized how beautiful Zoé was until I saw her siblings, the Hesperides. They looked just like Zoé
Hera
TTC
- Next to him sat a beautiful woman with silver hair braided over one shoulder and a dress that shimmered colors like peacock feathers.
BOTL - She was tall and graceful with long hair the color of chocolate, braided in plaits with gold ribbons. She wore a simple white dress, but when she moved, the fabric shimmered with colors like oil on water.
- a tall woman in a white dress, her dark hair braided over her shoulder.
Hephaestus
TTC
- Next to him, a huge lump of a man with a leg in a steel brace, a misshapen head, and a wild brown beard, fire flickering through his whiskers.
BOTL - he apparently didn’t care how he looked. He work a jumpsuit smeared with oil and grime. Hephaestus, was embroidered over the chest pocket. His leg creaked and clicked in its metal brace as he stood, and his left shoulder was lower than his right, so he seemed to be leaning even when he was standing up straight. His head was misshapen and bulging. He wore a permanent scowl. His black beard smoked and hissed. Every once in a while a small wildfire would erupt in his whiskers then die out. His hands were the size of catcher’s mitts, but he handled the spider with amazing skill.
Demeter
TTC
- On the ladies’ side of the throne room, a dark-haired goddess in green robes sat next to Hera on a throne woven of apple-tree branches.
Kelli empousai
BOTL
- Two cheerleaders in purple-and-white uniforms
- The other was African American with dark curly hair like Medusa’s (and believe me, I know what I’m talking about). Both girls had their names stitched in cursive on their uniforms
- She wore a blue dress tonight, and looked wickedly beautiful. Her eyes flickered—sometimes dark brown, sometimes pure red. Her hair was braided down her back and seemed to catch the light of the torches
Tammi empousai
BoTL
- One was blond with icy blue eyes.
- Two cheerleaders in purple-and-white uniforms
- Her blue eyes were beautiful, and the way her hair swept over her shoulders
Quintus/daedalus
BOTL
- a gray-haired man in Greek armor
- He was in his fifties. I guess, with short gray hair and a clipped gray beard. He was in good shape for an older guy. He wore black mountain-climbing pants and a bronze breastplate strapped over an orange camp T-shirt. At the base of his neck was a strange mark, a purplish blotch like a birthmark or a tattoo
- in the torchlight, his gray hair made him look like a ghost.
- Short gray hair, muscular,
Juniper
BOTL
- She was small—petite, I guess you’d call it—with wispy hair the color of amber and a pretty, elfish face. She wore a green chiton and laced sandals
- I realized her ears were slightly pointed. Her eyes, instead of being red from crying, were tinged green, the color of chlorophyll.
- She blushed a little greener.
- Green tears formed in her eyes
TLO - She was pretty in a dryad-y way, with her purple gossamer dress and her elfish face, but her eyes were green-tinted with chlorophyll from crying.
Silenus
BOTL
- huge bellies, sleepy expressions, and glazed eyes that couldn’t see past the next handful of goat chow
- Silenus tugged his yellow polo shirt over his belly and adjusted himself on his rosebush throne.
- potbellied satyr Silenus
Chris Rodriguez
BOTL
- The other was a teenage Hispanic guy in tattered camouflage pants and a dirty black T-shirt. His hair was greasy and matted.
- big Hispanic kid
Theseus
BOTL
- When it stood again, I could see it much more clearly—a teenage guy in Greek armor. He had curly hair and green eyes, a clasp shaped like a seashell on his cloak.
Briarus
BOTL
- When I first saw the creature inside, I wasn’t sure what I was looking at. He was human-size and his skin was very pale, the color of milk. He wore a loincloth like a big diaper. His feet seemed too big for his body, with cracked dirty toenails, eight toes on each foot. But the top half of his body was the weird part. He made Janus look downright normal. His chest sprouted more arms than I could count, in rows, all around his body. The arms looked like normal arms, but there were so many of them, all tangled together, that his chest looked kind of like a forkful of spaghetti somebody had twirled together.
- familiar giant, much taller than the Laistrygonians
Geryon
BOTL
- His face was weathered and brown from years in the sun. He had a slick black hair and a black pencil moustache like villains have in old movies. He smiled at us, but the smile wasn’t friendly; more amused, like Oh boy, more people to torture!
- his body...or bodies. He had three of them. Now you’d think I would’ve gotten used to weird anatomy after Janus and Briares, but this guy was three complete people. His neck connected to the middle chest like normal, but he had two more chests, one to either side, connected at the shoulders, with a few inches between. His left arm grew out of his left chest, and the same on the right, so he had two arms, but four armpits, if that makes any sense. The chests all connected into one enormous torso, with two regular but very beefy legs, and he wore the most oversized pair of Levis I’d ever seen. His chests each wore a different color Western shirt—green, yellow, red, like a stoplight. I wondered how he dressed the middle chest, since it had no arms
Minos
BOTL
- with the golden crown, the pointed beard, and the cruel eyes.
- Minos’s pointed beard had gone gray. He looked thinner than the last time I’d dreamed of him, and his sandals were splattered with mud, but the same cruel light shined in his eyes.
Cocalus
BOTL
- Sitting on it was a plump guy with curly red hair and a crown of laurels. At his side stood three girls who looked like his daughters. They all had his red hair and were dressed in blue robes.
Calypso
- She had almond eyes and caramel-color hair braided over one shoulder. She was...fifteen? Sixteen? It was hard to tell. She had one of those faces that just seemed timeless.
- The girl with the braided caramel hair, the one who’d called herself Calypso
- She wore a white sleeveless Greek dress with a low circular neckline trimmed in gold.
Daedalus
BOTL
- He’d trimmed his hair short. His beard was pure white. He looked frail and sad.
Ethan nakamura
BOTL
- He was a little older than me, about sixteen. He had glossy black hair, and his left eye was covered with an eye patch. He was thin and wiry so his Greek armor hung on him loosely. TLO
- A teenage guy in full Greek armor pushed through the crowd. His left eye was covered with a black patch.
Pan
BOTL
- old satyr. He watched us as we approached, his eyes as blue as the sky. His curly hair was white and so was his pointed beard. Even the goat fur on his legs was frosted with gray. His horns were enormous— glossy brown and curved. There was no way he could’ve hidden those under a hat the way Grover did. Around his neck hung a set of reed pipes.
Big mf crab
TLO
- I'm talking giant like bigger than the fountain. The monster rose ten feet out of the water. Its shell was mottled blue and green, its pincers longer than my body.
- If you've ever seen a crab's mouth, all foamy and gross with whiskers and snapping bits, you can imagine this one didn't look any better blown up to billboard size. Its beady black eyes glared at me, and I could see intelligence in them — and hate
Triton
TLO
- that. One guy was a merman with two fish tails instead of one. His skin was green, his armor studded with pearls. His black hair was tied in a ponytail, and he looked young
Silena beauregard
TLO
- Her hair wasn't combed and she wasn't even wearing makeup, which wasn't like her.
The oracle
TLO
- a shriveled female mummy m a tie-dyed dress. Tufts of black hair clung to her skull. Glassy eyes stared out of her leathery face. Just looking at her made my skin crawl.
- I’d never paid too much attention to its jewelry before. I figured it was just hippie love beads and stuff.
- leather pouch — like a Native American medicine pouch on a cord braided with feathers
Michael yew
TLO
- which looked kind of funny since Clarisse was a foot taller. (then him)
- Michael stood four feet six, with another two feet of attitude. He reminded me of a ferret, with a pointy nose and scrunched-up features — either because he scowled so much or because he spent too much time looking down the shaft of an arrow.
Jake mason
TLO
- Even Jake Mason, the hastily appointed new counselor from Hephaestus, managed a faint smile
Rachels dad
TLO
- He had rust-colored hair a little darker than Rachel's. It was smushed on one side like he'd lost a fight with his pillow. His blue silk pajamas had "WD" monogrammed on the pocket.
May castellan
TLO
- She looked like someone who enjoyed sticking her fingers in electrical sockets. Her white hair stuck out in tufts all over her head. Her pink housedress was covered in scorch marks and smears of ash. When she smiled, her face looked unnaturally stretched, and the high-voltage light in her eves made me wonder if she was blind.
- She was as thin as a scarecrow,
- the old lady with her bright eyes and her maniacal smile
Hestia
TLO
- A girl about eight years old was sitting cross-legged
- The girl had mousy brown hair and a simple brown dress. She wore a scarf over her head so she looked like a pioneer kid
- She studied me with eyes as red as the firelight
- They were filled with flames — but not like Ares's eyes. Hestia's eyes were warm and cozy.
Persephone
TLO
- She had lustrous black hair and warm brown eyes. Her dress shimmered with colors. Flower patterns in the fabric changed and bloomed — roses, tulips, honeysuckle.
Demeter
TLO
- She had lustrous black hair and warm brown eyes.
- She had the same hair and eyes, but looked older and sterner. Her dress was golden, the color of a wheat field. Her hair was woven with dried grasses so it reminded me of a wicker basket. I figured if somebody lit a match next to her, she'd be in serious trouble.
